Pregnancy & Postpartum
Adjusting to the birth of a baby can be challenging. The transition to parenthood
involves a profound upheaval and transformation in a woman’s life. Along with
dramatic physical changes in your body, there are fundamental shifts in identity,
roles, relationships, beliefs, and behavior.
For some pregnant and postpartum mothers, these changes can be so overwhelming they just don’t feel like themselves. Depression, anxiety, weepiness, sadness, exhaustion, and feeling disconnected from the baby are all common responses. Getting adequate support during this time of profound change is key not only for maternal well-being but for the entire family.
Dr. Alisa works with pregnant and postpartum mothers on a variety of issues
including:
Feeling connected and attached to the baby
Processing feelings around shifts in identity
Addressing past traumas and loss
Shoring up one’s social support network
Designing an overall wellness plan involving psychotherapy, possible medication, exercise, improved diet and nutrition, yoga and meditation
Relationships are at the core of who we are as human beings. When we are under
stress, our relationships can feel strained or disconnected.
